04/03/10 - Radical Nature Field Trip

Radical Nature

This event was organised in collaboration with Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. We took a mini bus of 16 artists to see Radical Nature: Art and Architecture for a Changing Planet, 1969 - 2009. The exhibition, previously shown at the Barbican, London, was housed in three locations in Ayreshire: The Dick in Kilmarnock, The Baird in Cumnock and Doon Valley Museum in Dalmellington.

Curated by Francesco Manacorda, the exhibition explored the role of the environment in art and architecture and is the first major exhibition to trace the post-war history of artists’ engagement with ecology and environmentalism.

Artists shown included Joseph Beuys, Richard Buckminster Fuller, Hans Haacke, Newton Harrison and Helen Mayer-Harrison, Robert Smithson, and a younger generation of artists including Heather and Ivan Morison, and Simon Starling.

Selected images of the work can be found here.
