Celebrating the Art of Urban Subversion
An introduction to contemporary explorations of the city, celebrating cooperation and community alongside the gentle art of reclaiming and subverting space. In distinctly non-academic terms you will be introduced to a range of initiatives including ReTag (USA), Yomango! (Spain), Ligna (Germany), StreetTV2 (Italy), as well as UK based examples such as The Space Hijackers, Labofii, NATO, and My Dads Strip Club. Alongside copious amounts of tea and biscuits there'll be screenings offering new perspectives on street art. And for those who crave a wee bit of academic stimulus there'll be some bed-time reading to give you a peep into the different methods and thinking of cultural activists. Outside of our time together, armed with a "toolbox" of tactics and techniques, you'll be supported to implement a small project of your own.
