Commencing 14/12/11 - Reading Towards Action - Art and Ecology

If there was anywhere but desert Jonathan Baxter Sarah Gittins D-AiR

This year the Reading Towards Action Group will focus on art and ecology. Primary texts include Felix Guattari's 'The Three Ecologies' and Arne Naess' seminal 'Ecology, Community and Lifestyle: Outline of an Ecosophy.' Texts will be read against a background of artworks and art practices that variously engage with ecological issues. The Natural World Museum's 'Art in Action: Nature, Creativity and our Collective Future' will serve as our art primer and participants will be invited to introduce relevant reading material and artists as the reading group develops.

Our emphasis will be upon Freire's understanding of praxis: reflection and action upon the world in order to transform it.

The Reading Towards Action Group is free and open to everyone.

Reading material will be available from both the Central Library and the Hannah Maclure Centre. In preparation for our first meeting please read Alan Boldon's 'Climate Change - An Aesthetic Crisis?'
