Commencing 28/09/11 - Performance Platform - an open conspiracy

D-AiR Dundee Artists in Residence Jonathan Baxter Performance Collective

Performance

- the act or process of performing or carrying out
- the execution or fulfilment (of a duty etc.)

In this year's Performance Platform - for both artists and non-artists - we'll be exploring two key themes: the ethics of performance and the demand of art. We'll be working together to support a range of socially engaged and ecological art practices and we'll be learning from one another about what it means to be, or not to be, a community.

Open to everyone, the Performance Platform is FREE - but it comes with conditions. If you'd like to join the Performance Platform or if you'd like to find out more please send D-AiR an email.

Ethical experience is, first and foremost, the approval of a demand, a demand that demands approval. Simon Critchley

The condition of witnessing what one did not (and perhaps cannot) see is the condition of whatever age we are now entering. Whether we call this period 'the post-modern age' or 'the age of terrorism,' it is characterized both by an intimate reawakening of the fragility of life and a more general sense of connection to one another that exceeds simple geophysical, ideological, or cultural proximity. If ... the face-to-face encounter is the most crucial arena in which the ethical bond we share becomes manifest, then live theatre and performance might speak ... with renewed vigor. Peggy Phelan
